An as yet unnamed Dublin footballer has been banned for three games after the CCCC decided to punish him for biting Donegal’s Paddy McBrearty.
It looks like we have our first big disciplinary issue of the GAA year. Last night the GAA’s Central Competitions Control Committee (CCCC) decided to act on an alleged biting incident in the Allianz National League game between Donegal and Dublin in Ballybofey two weeks ago.
At the time it was reported that young Donegal star Paddy McBrearty had received a wound on his shoulder that appeared to the result of a bite. The incident was only brought to the attention of the referee after the event but the powers that be reckon they have enough evidence to bring a charge.
Last night they contacted Dublin and informed them that the as yet unnamed player would be banned for three games, ruling him out of the League final with Tyrone and Dublin’s first two Championship games of the summer.
And according to the Examiner, the player involved intends to appeal the decision.
“The situation now is that it is up to the player, not the county board, to decide what he wishes to do and the player has decided that he wishes to appeal,” said Dublin chairman Andy Kettle. “The suspension has been proposed so that is where it rests now.”
Not the last we’ve heard of this we suspect.
UPDATE: The Irish Times is reporting that the player involved is Kevin O'Brien.
