In a result that will do little for both Kildare and Kilkenny, the Cats suffered a 34 point defeat in the Leinster Minor Championship tonight.
By Declan Whooley
It’s nothing new to see a Kilkenny side struggling in the big ball game, but this defeat will do little to boost the game in the county, losing on a scoreline of 2-29 to 0-01.
By half-time the Lilywhites were leading 2-12 to no score with goals coming from a Wayne Fitzpatrick penalty and Jamie Connolly. They tacked on another 17 points after the interval and while the Kilkenny lads did manage to raise the flag on one occasion, it was yet another heavy defeat.
We have to applaud the efforts of the Kilkenny boys considering the gulf between the teams, but the result will hardly have been the sternest test for a Kildare side with loftier ambitions for the coming season.
