After yesterday’s drama Galway/Kilkenny Part III is an easy sell anyway but the GAA has bowed to public opinion and dropped ticket prices for the replay to help hard-pressed fans.
Almost as soon as Barry Kelly blew the final whistle in yesterday’s All-Ireland final, the sniping about the Grab All Association began. Considering yesterday’s drawn showdown was the first in 53 years that argument holds little water but the possibility of extra-time for finals should perhaps be considered, especially as the replay forced the Ladies Football final to be moved back a week.
There was widespread calling for the Association to reduce ticket prices, and speaking on radio yesterday evening president Liam O'Neill said that the matter would be discussed today. And the Association has taken the populus decision to reduce ticket prices by almost 40% for the replay.
Stand tickets have been reduced from €80 down to €50 with terrace tickets selling for €25, down from €40.
The GAA is also expected to make 5,000 childrens tickets available at €10 each.
The All-Ireland final netted the GAA an estimated €5million yesterday and today's Irish Examiner believes the replay will still net €3 million for the Association. Good to see that they have seen sense and made the replay a more affordable option for supporters.
