He said he’d need a zimmer frame in order to play in the Leinster Final tomorrow, but there remains a possibility that 39-year old Graham Geraghty will feature for Meath at some stage.
Despite being well on the wrong side of 30 - he's 40 next year - Geraghty is still a member of the Meath panel, but hasn’t featured for the Royals of late due to a troublesome Achilles injury.
Because he also serves as a selector under Banty McEnaney, however, he has remained closely involved in the Royals set-up all season and speculation is mounting that he could be in line for an unlikely appearance against the Dubs in Croke Park tomorrow.
A report in the Irish Sun this morning suggests that Geraghty will be available from the bench if required and that despite not playing since March, he took part in an in-house training game during the week and is being seriously considered to play some part tomorrow afternoon.
Should Geraghty feature, it would completely contradict comments he made earlier on this week when he appeared at Croke Park alongside Alan Brogan to promote the first Leinster Final between the age old rivals since 2001.
“Ah I’d be going in on me zimmer frame I think,” he said about the possibility of featuring for the Royals this weekend.
“Listen, I have to work my way onto the panel first before I’d even think about trying to get a run. To put your straight, no there isn’t (a chance of playing). It hasn’t healed up well enough to be even training.”
Ah Graham you cute hoor, you were having us on all along.
