Leighton Glynn might have played his last Championship game this season after it was confirmed that the Wicklow captain suffered a broken ankle against Meath yesterday.
The Garden County’s star man had been influential as Wicklow stormed to an early lead over the Royals in the Leinster Championship encounter and threatened to make Meath's early season woes seem like small fry in comparison to the sh*tstorm that would have been generated had they lost yesterday.
With Meath gradually clawing their way back into the game, the underdogs suffered a big blow as Glynn had to cry off before half-time after suffering an injury when he appeared to block a Cian Ward kick with his foot.
There was a lengthy delay as Glynn was treated on the pitch and subsequently carried off on a stretcher. Glynn was taken to hospital afterwards for an x-ray, but Wicklow boss Harry Murphy wasn’t optimistic about his condition.
"Leighton, we don’t know yet," Murphy is quoted as saying in the Irish Examiner.
"He’s gone to the hospital. Please God, he’ll be okay. Their legs got wrapped up. It’s not great; he’s gone for an x-ray."
Widespread reports last night suggested that Glynn had indeed suffered a broken ankle and it was confirmed on the official GAA Twitter page.

Glynn’s absence will be a huge blow for Wicklow going forward as the International Rules star was a key cog in the Wicklow attack and will almost certainly miss the rest of the season as a result.
Here's hoping he's back on his feet before too long.
