Jimmy McGuinness would 'enjoy' a switch of codes, but not yet
The good news for Donegal GAA fans is that Jimmy McGuinness is staying at the helm of the All-Ireland champions. For now.
All good things must come to an end but for Donegal GAA they will have All-Ireland winning boss Jimmy McGuinness in the bainisteoir bib for a while yet. Despite all the talk of McGuinness leaving his post to work with a soccer team across the water, he confirmed yesterday that he is not going anywhere. Yet.
The Irish Examiner caught up with McGuinness yesterday at the launch of the ‘Match for Michaela’ in Belfast and he spoke about his immediate, and long-term, future.
"I’m hoping to be on the sideline for Donegal next season, definitely. That’s the bottom line," he claimed.
"It [a move] is something that wouldn’t scare me, I would enjoy doing it. I suppose my life is in sport and will be in sport when I’m finished with Donegal.
"My heart is in Donegal, my passion is in Donegal.
"There’s a lot of rumour and speculation and I suppose it’s very flattering on one level because I do work in different sports and I work with individuals as well as teams.
"It’s part of my training in terms of my undergraduate and my Masters. My life is sport. I went to college to study sport. I see myself in sport and nobody knows what the future holds."
As a qualified, and hugely respected, sports psychologist, we’re not surprised that McGuinness is in demand and we have a feeling whatever he turns his hand to will be a success.
