Pic: So this is what it meant to the Carlow under-21s to beat Dublin this evening

In the GAA, as in any sport, there is nothing that quite catches the imagination as an inspirational victory for the underdogs. Tonight, it was the turn of the Carlow under-21 hurlers.

The Barrowsiders played the role of David to Dublin’s Goliath in Parnell Park this evening and with the Dubs enjoying home advantage as well as being able to field senior stars Danny Sutcliffe and Eamon Dillon and dual star Ciaran Kilkenny in their ranks, all signs pointed to a victory for the home side. Carlow, however, didn’t read the script and having kept pace with the Metropolitans throughout they achieved victory in the most dramatic of circumstances, with Marty Kavanagh striking for a last minute goal to seal a 1-13 – 1-11 win that, by all accounts, they fully deserved. Dion Wall ,David Galway, Darren Dalton and Laurence Kinsella celebrate a memorable victory Carlow will now go on to face Wexford in the semi-final on June 26 but no doubt they’ll enjoy this one first and they’ll be well entitled to do so.
