Jim Gavin is the leading contender for the Dubs job after Pat Gilroy’s departure last night and his first job might be to change his Wikipedia page as soon as possible.
‘Giller’ stepped down after four years in charge of the Metropolitans last night, having guided the Dubs to the promised land after a 16 year wait last year as well as collecting three Leinster titles to boot.
The St. Vincent’s man cited a desire to spend more time with his family and the need to focus on his career as the reasons for stepping down, and it wasn’t long before speculation mounted about who would be the next man in charge.
Jim Gavin has been touted in many quarters as Gilroy’s successor and it would appear to make a lot of sense. A popular figure in the capital, he’s guided the Dubs to two All-Ireland under-21 titles in three seasons and like Gilroy, knows what it’s like to win an All-Ireland as a player having been part of the 1995 side.
Should Gavin get the job, the first thing he might look at is his Wikipedia page, which isn’t particularly detailed, but does refer to the Dubs boss as ‘Big Jim Wavin’.

Maybe he’s known by that moniker in Dublin footballing circles, but we’ve never heard that nickname before and after some quick research on our part, neither has the Internet.
If he does get the gig, Gavin’s immediate higher profile will probably mean that his Wikipedia page is sorted out fairly lively, but he’d want to hurry up because as Denis Hickie will readily testify, an association with ‘Wavin’ is not always desirable in sporting circles.
A Hat-tip to Pat Nolan of the Irish Mirror for pointing Gavin's Wiki-nickname out on Twitter last night.
