Video: A contender for the best Mayo All-Ireland Final song yet

It mightn’t be as good as 'Up Mayo' from the Ginger Melodeon Experience, but it’s no Mike Denver either.  Here’s No Solo with their effort ‘Mayo (The Wait is Over)’.

After Mike Denver came out with his affront to the ears ‘Mayo are back’ almost immediately after the All-Ireland semi-final, all of us waited with dread to hear song after terrible song in the run-up to the All-Ireland Final this weekend.

Thankfully, the musical numbers haven’t actually been that bad at all and from the Mayo side, following on from the commendable ‘Up Mayo’ from the Ginger Melodeon Experience comes ‘Mayo (The Wait is Over) from No Solo.

Say what you like about the song, but it’s nothing if not well-informed and doesn’t shy away from Mayo’s dark days, from the defeat at the hands of the Rebels in ’89 to the often poisonous two-game saga with Meath in ’96.

It’s not all doom and gloom, however, and after giving it a listen, Mayo fans might just believe that the wait will indeed be over come Sunday.
