Video: The life of a Junior B player captured perfectly in song
There have been many tales told of life playing Junior B GAA down over the years, but perhaps nothing sums it up better than this...
Croke Park might be where the best of the action takes place, but if you wanted to give a foreigner a glimpse of what the GAA is all about, then junior football or hurling is the place to go.
Players are routinely dragged out of bed or the pub to make up the numbers, a fella who never played or hasn’t togged out in years might be stuck in at midfield and there’s a good chance that a raw 16-year old corner back could be marking a grizzled veteran 30 his years his senior; nothing that happens in a junior B match should come as a surprise, it’s part of what make our native games so unique.
In every town and village across the land, there will be no end of lads with a Junior B war story to tell, but we haven’t heard it all summed up as well as it is by 16-year old Shane O’Mahony from Boyerstown in County Meath, who penned a tribute to life in junior B with a song that goes to the tune of Ed Sheeran’s wildly popular ‘A team’.
The sound isn’t particularly great and in the text below the YouTube clip, Shane was humble enough to admit that it didn’t go entirely according to plan, but it’s still a very commendable effort and the lyrics will strike a chord with the thousands across the country who have ever played the grade.
Check it out for yourself in the video above.
If you would like to show your appreciation to Shane you can do so on his Twitter page and we’d also like to extend a tip of the hat to his friend Alan Camon, who made us aware of the video earlier today.
