If you’re still not sure as to who might win the Hurler of the Year on Friday night, the GAA have put together a little video to remind us of the case put forward by all three candidates.

The battle for the most prestigious individual gong in hurling is as competitive as it’s ever been this season, with all three players up for the award making a compelling case and none of them really standing out above the rest.

It was a momentous year for King Henry Shefflin, who cemented his status as possibly the greatest of them all by claiming his ninth All-Ireland title. It’s not stretching it to say that the Cats wouldn’t have won Liam this year were it not for a tour-de-force from Henry in the drawn All-Ireland Final, while he had an excellent replay and some standout contributions throughout the Championship.

Prior to the All-Ireland Final, Joe Canning was the bookies’ favourite to win the award after a season in which he finally lived up to the potential that has been talked about ever since he was in teens.

Majestic against Kilkenny in the Leinster Final, he was brilliant in the first half of the drawn All-Ireland Final, showed nerves of steel to ensure it went to a replay and was prominent for the Tribesmen in the replayed game even when he was carrying injury.

The final contender, Paul Murphy, has enjoyed some rise to prominence since making his Championship debut for the Cats last season. After an All-Star last year, Murphy was even more influential this time around and was the most prominent member of a backline containing the likes of Jackie Tyrell, JJ Delaney, Tommy Walsh and Brian Hogan. Now, that’s saying something.

Whoever does claim the award on Friday night will be a deserving winner and you can take the time to give yourself a mini-reminder of their contributions this season in the video above.
