Few players will be looking forward to the O’Byrne Cup as keenly as Paudge McWalter. The Wicklow man will don the county jersey since 2010 after a horrific knee injury.

The early season GAA competitions will be relatively low-key as managers look to blood in new players ahead of the league and championship, but for Paudge McWalter it is a significant weekend. The 29 year-old’s last appearance for the Garden County was the Championship clash with Carlow two years ago where he suffered a terrible knee injury – the picture below says it all.

McWalter spent 12 weeks in a cast and there were fears that the St. Patrick’s clubman may never play football again.  His knee is still pinned with metal and has gone on to make a full recovery. He has already returned to action for his club and on Sunday he will line out against the students of DCU at Greystones.

It is a fantastic recovery from the former League of Ireland UCD player and we wish him all the best on his return to action.
