We know that supporters are willing to go to outrageous lengths to attend tomorrow’s All-Ireland Final, but paying seven grand for a pair of tickets is surely a bit much.

The demand for tickets for tomorrow’s meeting between Mayo and Donegal has been off the scale and it had been estimated that if everyone who wanted a ticket was able to attend that Croke Park would have been filled three times over.

Unfortunately, some greedy touts have taken advantage of the huge demand by slapping unreasonable prices on the precious tickets, with one seller on eBay receiving €7,100 for two Premium Level tickets, thought to be the highest price ever paid for tickets in the GAA.

According to the Irish Sun, the seller, believed to be from Tipperary, recouped the huge figure after an online bidding auction featuring seven different bidders and 29 separate bids on eBay yesterday.

GAA spokesman Alan Milton told the Irish Sun: “I’ve never seen anything like it. Not even Dublin and Kerry last year was like this.

“It’s all about supply and demand – and there is a huge demand for this.”

"There are a lot of emigrants from Donegal and Mayo and they’re coming home for it,” he added.

“There hasn’t been a Connacht-Ulster final since 1948. Nobody wants to be left without a ticket.

“Some extremely wealthy person saw it as an experience they couldn’t miss and spent the €7,100 to get it.”

Milton added that, although the serial number was blurred out on eBay, that the GAA will examine it and if they can identify the tickets then the holders will be refused entry to Croke Park tomorrow.

We know that it’s a novel final and that a county’s appearance in an All-Ireland Final could be a once-in-a-lifetime event, but paying that amount of money for tickets is just a little ridiculous.

After paying that amount of money, whoever did buy the tickets better not leave five minutes early to beat the traffic, that's for sure.
