They probably won’t need him but Galway fans will be happy to hear that Joe Canning will line-out against Westmeath tomorrow.
Galway begin their latest bid for Leinster glory with a match against Westmeath tomorrow night in Mullingar. A quick look at the odds – Galway are 1/80 and the handicap is -15 – tells you all you need to know about the likely outcome of the game.
We wonder will those odds get even more unbackable now that All-Star forward Joe Canning has been confirmed in the Galway line-up.
The Portumna man was a major doubt for this game, after he injured his shoulder in a challenge match against Clare last weekend. However, even though Anthony Cunningham probably doesn’t need the extra firepower Joe will bring, he will be glad to have his ace back to full fitness.
One player who won’t make it is defender David Collins, after an ankle injury picked up in that Clare game rules him out. Cunningham also names four debutants; goalkeeper Fergal Flannery, corner-back Niall Donohue, wing-back Paul Gordon, and centre-forward Niall Burke.
