Colm Cooper and Kieran Donaghy will be forgiven for thinking they’ve taken the other’s jersey for the clash against Westmeath on Sunday, where Bryan Sheehan will be welcomed back into the Kerry fold.
The Gooch has been named to start at the edge of the square against the Lake County and will be flanked by Donaghy on one side and James O’Donoghue on the other, with ‘Star’ expected to perform a roving role and help out around the middle of the field.
After being dominated in that area against Cork, Jack O’Connor will be delighted to welcome back Bryan Sheehan, whose presence should ensure that we won’t see Paul Galvin attempting 50-yard frees as he did against the Rebels.
Elsewhere, Brian Maguire replaces Peter Crowley at left half back, while Donnchadh Walsh will start at left half forward in place of the injured Darran O’Sullivan, who has been named amongst the Kerry subs and could feature at some stage.
Staying in Munster, Eoin Cadogan has been parachuted straight back into the Cork hurling team for Saturday’s qualifier clash with Wexford at Semple Stadium. Cadogan replaces William Egan at left half back in one of four changes made by JBM, with Damien Cahalane, Niall McCarthy and Luke O’Farrell also coming in.
Wexford have made three changes for that game with Paul Roche, Jack Guiney and Stephen Banville coming into the starting XV, while the introduction of Callum McCormack, who shot 1-3 from the bench against Louth last time out, is the only change to the Westmeath side faced with the arduous task of taking down the Kingdom in Mullingar on Sunday afternoon.
