The Cats are out of the bag: Team news for Kilkenny and the rest this weekend

07/07/2012 12:58 pm

One change apiece for Kilkenny and Galway, switches aplenty for Clare and Daly keeps his cards close to his chest. Here’s all your GAA team news for this weekend.

If it ain’t broke, don't fix it seems to be the mantra adopted by both Brian Cody and Anthony Cunningham ahead of the Leinster final tomorrow, with both only making one change to the sides that hammered Dublin and Offaly respectively in the semi-finals.

For Kilkenny, JJ Delaney has been forced out of the side with a finger injury sustained against the Dubs, but Noel Hickey is no bad replacement to be able to call on and Hickey will pick up Joe Canning if he does line-out as selected at the edge of the square for the Tribesmen.

The experienced David Collins returns from injury to take his place at right corner back for Galway, with Joseph Cooney losing out as a result.

Some say the Leinster Final will be little more than a foregone conclusion, but with Michaels Rice and Fennelly absent for the Cats once again, Galway might have summat to say about that.

It throws in at HQ tomorrow afternoon at 4pm.

Kilkenny (SH v Galway): D Herity; P Murphy, N Hickey, J Tyrrell; T Walsh, B Hogan, R Doyle; C Buckley, P Hogan; H Shefflin, TJ Reid, E Larkin, C Fennelly, R Power, R Hogan.

Galway (SH v Kilkenny): J Skehill; D Collins, K Hynes, F Moore; N Donoghue, T Regan, J Coen; I Tannian, A Smyth; D Burke, N Burke, C Donnellan; Cooney, J Canning, D Hayes.

Much has been made of the touchline battle between Davy Fitzgerald and Anthony Daly when Clare and Dublin meet at Cusack Park this evening and already there is an element of mind games at play, with Davy making five changes from the Clare side that narrowly lost to Waterford in the Munster semi-final and Anthony Daly holding back on naming his Dublin side until just before throw-in.

Seadna Morey and Tony Kelly will make their championship bows at midfield and wing-forward respectively, while there is also room in the Banner line-up for Sean Collins at midfield, Fergal Lynch at right-half forward and Darach Honan at top of the left. James McInerney, Patrick O'Connor, Paudge Collins, Colin Ryan and the injured Enda Barrett all lose out.

Anthony Daly, meanwhile, will wait until just before throw-in to name the Dublin side, when it will become clear whether Conal Keaney and Conor McCormack are fit to take part.

Throw in what should be a buzzing Cusack Park is this evening at 7pm.

Clare (SH v Dublin): P Kelly; D O’Donovan, C Dillin, C Cooney; B Bugler, P Donnellan, N O’Connell; S Morey, S Collins; F Lynch, J Clancy, T Kelly; J Conlon, C McGrath, D Honan.
