Video: Would you film your ma sleepwalking? This guy did and got over a million hits on YouTube

The respect commanded by Irish mammies from their sons is enormous. Such maternal appreciation is obviously not a universal thing, however.

The relationship between Irish mammies and their sons drives plenty of Irish women around the bend. The vice-like grip an Irish mother has over her boy isn’t loosened until well into adulthood and even then ‘the mammy’ is often a more important part of his life than his better half.

The point we’re getting at is that no Irish man would ever dare do what a young man in America did this week, namely film his mother while she was sleepwalking and subsequently post the embarrassing footage on YouTube.

Any sleepwalkers out there will know that one is not responsible for their actions while in a daze and by the standards of some of the stories we’ve heard over the years, this woman doing a few bizarre dances and wondering aloud about a ‘tomato cage’ is fairly tame by comparison.

Still, we imagine she would rather that her escapades weren’t seen by nearly half a million people on YouTube, with a significantly greater number having tuned into see her reaction while sitting alongside the son who might be looking for a new place to live in the next couple of weeks.

The videos, which have both gone viral in the last couple of days, can be seen at the top of the page (the sleepwalking) and below (the reaction), but any of you getting ideas, stop right there.

Our mammies deserve better than that.
