Video: SOS Save Our Skin is getting Irish men to change our habits in the sun
The SOS Save Our Skin campaign hopes to open Irish male’s eyes to the dangers of skin cancer. So take a minute to watch this video and check out their site.
If there’s one thing that we strive to do here at JOE it’s to keep our fellow Irish brothers safe and in the know. But did you know that 1 in 8 Irish men will develop skin cancer by the age of 74? If there’s around two million men in Ireland, so that’s approximately 250,000 of us – an incredibly high figure considering it’s preventable by staying sun safe.
The video above will certainly hit home for a few of you out there. It asks us what our favourite memory is – so take a minute to think of yours. The lads in the video reply with Italia 90, the Oxegen music festival and winning the Captain’s Prize down in the golf club. It’s fitting, as we all have memories that we’ll remember forever, but all too often we forget about what’s going on around us.
According to the SOS Save Our Skin campaign brought to you by La Roche-Posay, almost half of Irish men never wear sun protection in Ireland – does that sound like you? Well there’s a 50 per cent chance that it does.
Against that stat, here’s another one: 90% of skin cancers can be cured if detected on time. Early detection is key, so make sure to check your skin regularly and tell your friends & family to check theirs too.
There’s loads more information on the SOSSaveOurSkin.ie website, such as what to look out for and how to prevent certain skin cancers and premature aging, so make sure to watch the video and check out the site.
If you help out and join the cause over on the SOSSaveOurSkin.ie website, La Roche-Posay will make a donation in your name to the Melanoma Trust and you’ll also be entered into a draw to win one of 10 sets of Anthelios sun protection.
So make sure you don’t get as sick “as a Jaysusen parrot”. Seriously though lads, it’s worth your while – and health – to check this out.
