A particular molecule found in natural foods can help to keep you skinny according to Swiss scientists, and it just so happens that this molecule is found in beer. Great news for anyone heading to Poznan...
If the missus has ever complained that your drinking habits are causing a bit of a beer belly, then you can tell her that it’s not the booze and that it must be the 4am kebab that’s making your six-pack turn into a keg. Why so? Because Swiss experts have found a molecule in beer that they’ve linked with weight loss. Now there's a nice bit of news for your Friday.
The molecule in question is called nicotinamide riboside and it can be found in natural foods like beer and milk. According to the scientists from the Lausanne Polytechnic School, the molecule prevents fat build-up, increases muscle performance and improves energy expenditure, reports this the Irish Sun.
However, we wouldn’t recommend you drop everything and go on a beer only diet in the hopes of shedding a few extra kilos before the summer is over (has it even started?). That’s because the molecule is difficult to isolate and synthesise.
Basically, the lads in Switzerland know the molecule exists, but they don’t know how much exactly is found in beer, milk or whatever you’re having yourself.
Dr Johan Auwerx, of the Lausanne Polytechnic School said: “At the moment, we can’t even measure its concentration in milk, so it’s impossible to know how much you would have to drink to be able to observe its effects.”
Ah well, we’re sure our boys in Poland will be able to help the scientists out with that conundrum.

Here’s how much water you should drink every day, depending on your age
There’s also one way to find out if you’re dehydrated That we need to drink more water on the regular is a well-known fact. While we might consume enough liquids during the day, coffee, tea, soft drinks and a few pints after work don’t quite cut it. But why do we need to make sure […]
