Racing Q & A: Paul Nolan

17/01/2012 6:20 pm

Wexford trainer Paul Nolan steps into the hot seat for this week’s racing Q & A.

One item you never leave the house without: My phone

If you get a day off, what do you like to do? I like to go to GAA matches

Favourite horse: Of all time, Istabraq

Favourite track: Leopardstown

Lucky charm/superstition: I nod at magpies and I always have a relic my grandmother gave me in my pocket

Earliest racing memory: Dawn Run winning the Gold Cup

Best day: I’d have to say Joncol winning the Hennessy

Worst day: The day I went to Cheltenham with two fancied horses and both of them pulled up. It was Say Again and Mise Rafturai in the 2003 County Hurdle.

Best advice you ever got: I got some alright, but they can’t be published!

Favourite holiday destination: Portugal or Killarney

Who’s the person you would most like to have a pint with? Bill Clinton

More excited about Euro 2012, the Olympics or the GAA Championship: I’m looking forward to them all but for genuine entertainment I would have to say the GAA

Unsung hero: I really admire former Wexford hurler Dave Guiney

Favourite sportsperson outside of racing: For his talent and the way he battled back from injuries, Henry Shefflin

What’s on your iPod? Don’t have one

Money’s no object - what’s your ideal car? I couldn’t give a razoo so long as it starts!

Horse to watch this season: One of my own called Defy Logic. He will run in a bumper somewhere in February
