Recession over? Tote posts major upturn on weekend cards

20/02/2012 9:43 am

The Tote Ireland aggregates at Gowran Park and Navan at the weekend showed healthy increases on the corresponding cards in 2011.

The turnover at Gowran Park on Saturday was €108,831, up more than €3,000 on the same day 12 months previously.

And things looked even healthier at Navan a day later, where there was a 17 per cent jump in takings year-on-year.

The aggregate for Sunday’s card, which included three Grade 2 events, was €127,345, a rise of more than €18,000 on the 2011 equivalent.

Those increases in takings prompted some tasty dividends, including a €1,649 Placepot prize at Gowran Park on Saturday, a pot that was inflated by the result of the fifth leg, a maiden hurdle in which the first four home ranged in prices from 12/1 to 40/1 winner Ballynacree.

And with the Jackpot going unclaimed on both days, there is a tempting multiple rollover of €17,286 on offer at Punchestown on Wednesday.
