Tonight's Telly
Pick of the night: The Event, RTE Two, 9.35pm.
The next great big hope of US TV premieres is a double bill on RTE Two tonight and attempts to fill the Lost-shaped hole in our mysterious TV viewing habits. The closely-guarded political sci-fi thriller is centred around… you guessed it, an undetermined event that affects the future of the human race, with three plots focusing on a group of detainees of non-terrestrial origin. Our guess? Trapped time travelers!
Movie pick: Saw III, Channel 4, 11.30pm.
Ok, so none of the sequels ever lived up to Saw but if you're a gore seeker then this is your best bet tonight. Weakened by his terminal illness, the menacing criminal draws on his protegee's help to kidnap a doctor, whom Jigsaw needs to keep him alive long enough to witness his final gory adventure. Horror sequel, starring Tobin Bell, Shawnee Smith and Angus MacFadyen.
