Quick energy tip No 11: Switch to Electric Ireland and save
One of the most obvious ways to save energy around the home is by switching to another provider, so here’s how you can switch to Electric Ireland and save.
How do you go about switching from your current electricity provider to a much better price plan with Electric Ireland? Sounds like a complicated job with a lot of effort involved, right? Wrong. It couldn’t be easier.
All you need to switch your electricity over to Electric Ireland is a copy of your current electricity bill, your MPRN (Meter Point Reference Number) to identify your supply address, your banking details (an old bank statement will do) and your latest electricity meter reading, as this speeds up the switching process.
It’s much the same if you want to switch your gas over to Electric Ireland. All you need there is a copy of your latest gas bill so that they can identify your GPRN (Gas Meter Reference Number) and meter number, your latest gas meter reading and your banking details.
So how long does it take? Well, with Electric Ireland a gas switch can take up to 21 days, but it’s usually quicker if you have all the relevant documents at hand. That’s why they ask for your gas meter reading as this speeds up the process so you can enjoy savings sooner. As for electricity, it takes up to 20 days. Again, they only ask for your electricity meter reading to speed up the process.
Now, we know what you’re thinking. Your current provider has a girl in customer services who has such a sweet voice and you simply can’t come to tell her that it’s just not working out between you. Well fear not, as Electric Ireland will tell her that it’s over, so there’s no fear of her twisting your arm with a €5 discount off your next bill, or a free logo embroidered teddy bear if you stay.
