Have you completed Mass Effect 3? Is Skyrim now gathering dust in the corner of your room? If so, you need to create your very own online game.

How does creating your very own online computer game sound? Expensive right? Well not anymore. That’s thanks to a little known New Zealand software company called Instinct Entertainment, which aims to bring computer game creation to the masses with the launch of their Gamefroot Game Centre.

The do-it-yourself online game creator is completely web-based so you don’t have to worry about splashing out on fancy equipment to make the next epic Mario or Sonic adventure.

Users can create 2D platform games using pre-loaded and/or original tiles, objects, characters, backgrounds and music. There’s so much pre-loaded stuff to choose from that you’ll find it hard finding time to play the games you’ve made.

Company director Dan Milward said the idea for Gamefroot came after an unsuccessful games pitch to a Chinese firm, according to the Brisbane Times.

“They said we were too small. They wanted 100 games a month and us to commit to a certain amount of revenue. I thought, ‘What if we could harness the power of everybody who wanted to make games’”?

Sounds like a cool way to start off your career as a games developer, however you might want to hold off on making the next Donkey Kong of the online games world. The company hopes to monetise the site by selling games made on it. But don’t worry, they plan on sharing revenues with creators.
