Did you see Inception? Have you ever wanted to take control of your dreams like they did in the movie? Well, now you can, apparently.

Last week we brought you the news that some bloke from America – where else – made his own power saving DIY lamp that turns off when he blinks. Well, now another American has taken things one step further by making a pair of DIY dream goggles that lets you take control of your dreams… freaky.

The majority of the time you’ll go to sleep, wake up and that will be that. You don’t remember having any type of dream whatsoever. Then there are the times that you’re asleep and dreaming, yet you know you’re dreaming. This is called a lucid dream.

Lucid dreams are interesting things as they allow you to shape and create the world around you – it’s your dream after all, so you can do what you like in there.

However, the trick to lucid dreams is knowing when you’re dreaming. This is where the DIY dream goggles come into their own. They have been designed to let you know that you’re asleep, without waking you up. Sounds a bit out there, but supposedly it works.

The build consists of a pair of safety goggles with some red LED lights that flash on your eyes when you’re asleep. The idea is that the lights flash when you’re going into the rapid eye movement (REM) stage where your dream activity is at it’s highest.

This makes you aware that you’re asleep and dreaming without actually waking you up.

It all sounds like a good idea, but the proof is in the pudding as they say.
