A prop designer over in the UK has finally finished off a giant six-legged mechanical robot after four years and thousands of hard earned pounds…

If your missus is constantly harping on about how you never finish any DIY projects on time or within budget then you should show her this…

Matt Denton, from Hampshire in the UK, has spent the past four years working on Mantis with some help from the lads at Micromagic Systems, even though the project was only supposed to last 12 months. But what is it?

Well, it’s a two-tonne turbo diesel hexapod walking machine, which sounds like a lot of fun. Check it out below:

Here’s what Matt says on YouTube: “After four years intensive R&D, inspiration, design and build, Micromagic Systems is proud to unveil Mantis – the biggest, all-terrain operational hexapod robot in the world.

“This 2.2-litre Turbo Diesel-powered, British-designed and -built walking machine can be piloted or remote Wi-Fi-controlled, stands 2.8 metres high with a five meter working envelope and weighing in at just under two tonnes.”

So, after four years in the workshop and after thousands of pounds in cash, surely this beast has a purpose? Well, not exactly…

“It’s an entertainment vehicle,” said Matt. “But I hope it will inspire people.”

We’re not surprised that the Mantis was built as an ‘entertainment vehicle’ and not the next big thing on the road, seeing as it can only travel at 1.5km/h and manage a distance of 5km on a 20-litre tank of diesel.

Still, it looks cool…

You can check out loads more pics and footage of the Mantis in action over on Facebook.
