Nostalgia eh? Ain’t what it used to be really.
By Eoghan Doherty

Our grandprents and parents are always telling us that things today just aren’t as great as they used to be. To be fair, we’re probably guilty of doing the exact same thing now.
That’s where we’re wrong though. In the ten years that have passed since 2003 we’ve moved on and improved for the better, albeit we’re not as minted as we once were and sure we’re not as happy anymore, but what is “happiness” really?
*weeps uncontrollably*
JOE takes a look at 3 things that make 2013 waaaay better than 2003.
2003 – Crazy Frog - We don’t like to talk about it, but 2003 is the year that Erik Wernquist created, sorry spawned, the monstrosity that is Crazy Frog. Have (or don’t have) a look and listen here. We’re sorry in advance:
2013 – No Crazy Frog. It’s as simple that really. There’s no more Crazy Frog. Apart from whenever somebody posts a link to the Crazy Frog video in their article. Again, we’re sorry.
2003 – this was the year that NASA’s Pioneer 10 Spacecraft sent its last signal back to NASA headquarters after it had travelled 7.5 billion miles from Earth, leaving us behind without even a goodbye phonecall. Would we ever receive such brilliant messages from Space ever again?
Yes. Yes we would.
2013 – forget about Pioneer 10 Spacecraft. This year it’s all about Canadian astronaut Commander Chris Hadfield, the absolutely legendary Spaceman who has a special place in the hearts of the Irish population. Mainly because he posted amazing pictures of our country as well as recording brilliant Bowie-inspired musical videos like this rendition of Space Oddity:
As well as eductaing us all on the finer points of space science:
2003 – the year an American state rejoiced and the rest of the film-loving, 80s-action-movie-obsessed, ridiculous-one-liner-fanboys wept as the Austrian Oak Arnold Schwarzenegger successfully ran for Governor of California:

We thought we had lost the great man from the world of acting altogether, bar a few terrible cameos here and there. We need not have worried though...
2013 – the world is a better place now and Arnie is back to rule the action movie roost. His latest cinema release, The Last Stand, put fellow action alumni attempts to shame (Sly Stallone – Bullet to the Head, Bruce Willis – A Good Day To Die Hard). And it looks like he’s here to stay as he’s signed up for The Legend of Conan and The Expendables 3 in 2014 already.
