Today's Triplet: A trio of Late Late Show clips

01/06/2012 12:00 pm

Today’s Triplet is a special Late Late Show edition and with 50 years of footage, we have selected one music, one funny and one all-time classic interview.

Viral Video:

Over 50 years there have been many great Late Late interviews but this is the only one we can think of that set off a tribunal. Padraig Flynn dug his own grave, and that of Bertie and a fair few others, by opening his well-fed face about Tom Gilmartin in 1999. Speaking about the problems of running a few houses at the same time didn’t help either. Still shocking after all these years.

Music moment:

U2 have appeared on the Late Late Show a fair few times, and we fully expect one or two of the lads to appear on tonight’s episode. But this appearance in 1980 was their first. The song, Stories For Boys, is not too bad but there is much more to marvel at. The Edge’s hair, Bono’s outfit and even Adam’s jumper are all truly remarkable. Some of the YouTube commenters on this clip reckons Bono looks like Harry Potter here but we don’t see it.

Funny clip:

There’s a wealth of funny appearances by the likes of Dylan Moran and Tommy Tiernan on the Late Late but Jimmy Carr taking Pat Kenny down about his ‘land issues’ before a competition winner makes Pat the happiest we have ever seen him is our favourite.
