Racy Ryanair advert gets more free publicity - this time from Swedes
Ryanair is continuing to enjoy what is most likely hundreds of thousands of Euro in free publicity from advertising regulators all over Europe. This time it's the Swedes.
Swedish modesty was abused by a Ryanair advert for it charity calendar according to the country's ad watchdog. Their finding comes just a week after the British Advertising Standards Agency found that a raunchy Ryanair advert was too sexist to print.
Ryanair's Swedish advert has also been slammed as being sexist, but they didn't ban it, but could impose fines.
The ad was for the annual Ryanair 'bikini babe' cabin crew calendar and featured scantily clad pictures of the airline's more busty stewardesses. The raunchy advert offended the reserved Swedes so much that 56 people and two organisations complained to the ombudsman.
This isn't Ryanair's first run in with the Swedish. Only last month their spokesperson, Stephen McNamara, had a run in with the national broadcaster, which was slightly embarrassing.
He defended the calendar at the time, telling thelocal.se: "Ryanair's cabin crew calendar has raised €500,000 for charity in just five years and we will continue to support the right of our crew to take their clothes off to raise money for those who need it most," he told The Local in December."
Sure, with all this free advertising Ryanair must be laughing themselves silly. Do these advertising standards people not know they're playing into the airline's hands?
