New research from New Zealand suggests that women are now smarter than men.

Women are finally smarter than us... That’s according to James Flynn, a world-renowned authority on IQ tests, who has been doing a bit of research on the matter.

Since IQ tests began around 100 years ago, women have been on average five points behind us blokes.

However, that gap has been steadily getting smaller over the years and according to Dr Flynn, women have now moved ahead.

"In the last 100 years the IQ scores of both men and women have risen but women's have risen faster," said Mr Flynn.

"This is a consequence of modernity. The complexity of the modern world is making our brains adapt and raising our IQ."

Dr Flynn collated his data from New Zealand, Australia, the United States, Canada, Argentina, Estonia and countries in Western Europe.

He found that in New Zealand, Estonia and Argentina, women scored marginally more than men while results from Australia showed an almost identical result between men and women.

Now, Dr Flynn did say that more worldwide data would be needed before we could say that women are officially smarter, but they’re certainly getting close.
