Apparently the Niagara Falls are going to turn green and red for Mayo Day 2015

This would be something

Joe Harrington

Those Mayo people are a resourceful bunch.

Mayo people have proved that they have the stomach for a good campaign (see Mayo 4 Sam campaign 1952 through 2015).

The first ever Mayo Day celebrations will take place on May 2 this year, and three men from the Connacht county have started a campaign to get global participation.

Take over the world

New York State Assemblyman Michael Kearns, Buffalo Fenian GAA clubman Padraic Walsh and director of the diaspora group Mayo Manchester Tony Hennigan are the lads involved.

According to The Advertiser, their brilliant efforts could see one of the world’s best known landmarks – Niagara Falls – turned green and red on the day.

Padraic Walsh is quoted saying: “We have already made contact with Niagara Falls and are not anticipating any problems with staging the event.

“It would be great to see the falls lit up in our county colours as they straddle both Canada and America where most of the 9.3 million people with Mayo roots now live.”

An ambitious plan, but we wouldn’t put it past them.
