According to a new survey, BMW drivers are the pushiest people on the roads, as they tend to use their horn more than other drivers.
BMW make some of the best cars in the world, but some people have a certain belief about their drivers. Many jokes about BMW drivers have circulated over the years, most of which show them to be pushy or unreasonable, but they themselves admit to using their horn more than others.
In a study for webuyanycar.com (the car buying website with the extremely annoying advert), over 2,000 motorists were asked how often they use their horn on an average journey and it found that 53 per cent of BMW drivers admitted to using their horn at least once every time they go out, which was three times the average of 18 per cent.
On the other end of things, only 5 per cent of Nissan drivers said they use their horns regularly. Other car brands whose drivers tend to be a bit hornier than usual are Jaguar (45 per cent), Fiat (43 per cent), Audi (39 per cent) and the recently bankrupt Saab (29 per cent).
The top two reasons for sounding a horn were for when a fellow road user cuts you off, or when someone remains stationary at a green light.
When asked what is the horn actually for, some interesting answers were given. Around 10 per cent of road users didn’t know what it was for, 52 per cent said it was there to warn pedestrians and other road users of a dangerous situation, six per cent said it was there to express anger, while a further six per cent said it was for alerting people of their arrival or that they were waiting outside.
