Lindsay Lohan is Irish? Really?
We might not want to admit it because she just did a hit-and-run on a baby’s buggy in her Maserati, but Lindsay Lohan is as Irish as they come.

We might not want to admit it because she just did a hit-and-run on a baby’s buggy in her Maserati, but actress and DUI veteran Lindsay Lohan is as Irish as they come.

It’s a well-known fact that if a person achieves global fame in the world of art, entertainment, politics or sport then there is a very good chance that they have some remote link to our glorious, wet rock in the North Atlantic.

If any sort of a link can be established, regardless of how remote, then we own that individual and we can rightfully expect them to publically attribute their greatness to the Irish blood in their veins, appear on the Late, Late Show and ultimately lead the St Patrick’s Day parade down O’Connell Street.

You don’t have to go back very far to find Li-Lo’s green streak. She was born in 1986 in New York and grew up in Long Island.

Donata ‘Dina’ Sullivan came from a stalwart Irish-American New York family and her grandfather, John L. Sullivan, founded the Long Island Pro-Life Party. Dina, who worked as a singer and dancer, eventually met and married Michael Lohan – another Catholic of mixed Irish and Italian lineage. Michael came from a troubled household and would later describe his father, Richard Lohan, as an alcoholic.

Li-Lo was the young family’s first born, coming into the world a year after their marriage in 1985. Michael nursed ambitions of being an actor and the couple threw Lindsay into the world of celebrity early on. She got her first modeling jobs as a three-year-old for Calvin Klein Kids and Abercrombie kids.

The freckle-faced youngster appeared in over 100 TV ads before moving into acting, making her screen debut aged 10. She hit the big time, however, when she stared in Disney's The Parent Trap in 1998. A starring role in Mean Girls cemented her place as teeny bopper gold.

Rehab

Lindsay’s career suddenly became interesting in 2007 when she was done twice for drink driving. The years that followed turned the former child star’s life into a slow-motion car crash with stints in drug rehab.

Things went from bad to worse for Li-Lo back in July when a judge sentenced her to 90 days in jail and an inpatient rehab program. The judge found that she had violated her probation, which stemmed from a 2007 drug case, by failing to attend alcohol education classes.

Happily, the 24-year-old qualified for early release under the I’m a God Damn Celebrity early release program and she once again tasted freedom after spending 13 days in solitary confinement in an all-female Los Angeles prison.

Her latest escapade, however, looks likely to trump them all. It has been reported that Lindsay was pulling out of her garage at her home in West Hollywood when she accidentally hit a woman pushing her child in a buggy.

After hitting the pair in her Maserati, Lohan is said to have “pulled to the right, stopped for two seconds, and then just kept going, speeding away”.

So there you have it – the freckle-faced, hard-drinking jailbird is actually one of our very own.
