National Geographic had some glowing praise for Dublin and urged people to visit on New Year’s Eve

High praise indeed.

When it comes to travel publications that are recognised the world over, they don’t come much bigger than National Geographic; it even has its own TV channel for God’s sake. So when they had more than a few kind words to write about Dublin on their website, it is praise that is not to be taken lightly. In an article titled Best Winter Trips 2016, National Geographic editors compiled a list of must-see destinations this winter, with our capital getting a mention because of the New Year’s Eve Festival which appears to be growing in size and prestige with each passing year. The author of the piece, Amy Alipio, features editor with the National Geographic Traveler, praised the “dazzling streetscapes” and the “joyous Procession of Light” in the city centre ahead of a festival that even she knows promises to be "bigger and better" than the award-winning 2015 edition. Elsewhere in the piece, Alipio recommends a stay in the Dean Hotel on Harcourt Street, a night out in Lillie’s Bordello and visits to the Kilkenny Shop on Nassau Street and the Abbey Theatre. Not a mention of Temple Bar, potatoes, leprechauns or a pint of Guinness in sight. Nice work Amy. You can read the article on Dublin in full on the National Geographic website.
