These are the biggest turn-offs that people have on a first date

Don't do any of these things...

Ben Kenyon

Do these annoy you also?

With the advent of Tinder and the whole online dating thing, you’ve got to bring your A game on a first date or else you’ll be heading out the door quicker that you can say ‘swipe left’. Some people might even argue that the whole concept of dating is finished, but there’s no denying that a good first impression can help.

What does this mean? Well, turning up on time, looking sharp and not being absolutely hammered are always good places to start.

If you’re living in hope of a second date, then it might be good to take heed of the things that this study by Europe’s largest dental treatment provider, mydentist, came up with.

More than half (57%) of people surveyed agreed that bad personal hygiene was their main peeve. This was closely followed by rudeness (40%) and being too distracted by technology (36%).

So in reverse order, here’s what NOT to do on that all-important first date.

5 – Discussing previous partners

You’d imagine that this falls into the category of common sense but some people still love to talk about their ex. FYI, your date probably doesn’t want to hear about how amazing your ex-girlfriend was, or see pictures of her.

4 – Spending too much time on your phone

We know you love your phone – we love ours too – but maintaining eye contact is critical in when making conversation.

3- Bad manners

It’s a first date. Leave the bad manners at home until you’re both married, middle aged and grown tired of each other. Only kidding, don’t even bring them up then.

2- Bad breath

It’s 2016 for feck sake – there are tooth brushes, mouthwash, chewing gum, mints, floss and other dental hygiene products available.

1- Poor hygiene

This was the number one turn-off for people on dates. Surely it can’t be that difficult to have a shower, apply deodorant, comb your hair or iron a shirt?

We imagine that the majority of people that don’t do these five things will be walking home alone from their first date.
