Olympics News

Did you hear Usain Bolt on Highland Radio yesterday?
The biggest sports star in the world was interviewed on local radio in Donegal yesterday. Hear what Usain Bolt had to say right here.
Considering how few of us there are, us Irish do crop up everywhere. And that was even more apparent at the Olympics, where Irish flags were visible at every venue and some of the biggest stars had Irish connections.
The amazing men’s 800m champ David Rudisha is trained by an Irish man, Brother Colm O'Connell, but an even bigger star than Rudisha has a major Irish connection.
The world’s fastest man, and winner of three gold medal in the last fortnight, Usain Bolt, has an Irish manager. Ricky Simms, a Donegal man, runs the affairs of the Jamaican superstar as well as a host of other big names in athletics, through his company PACE Sports Management.
Anyway, Highland Radio’s Myles Gallagher was chatting to Simms on his afternoon show yesterday and when Gallagher asked Simms about Bolt coming to Donegal, the man himself came on the line.
Bolt, who may have had a busy night on Saturday, spoke about his wins, a possible go at the long jump, Rio 2016 and a visit to Ireland. Have a listen to the entire interview above and hats off to the lads at Highland Radio for a world exclusive.
