Video: What happened the last time Katie Taylor fought Sofya Ochigava

With a small bit of trash talking in the papers today, here’s what happened the last time Katie Taylor met Sofya Ochigava. A repeat of this would do us fine today.

You may have seen that Katie Taylor’s Russian opponent today, Sofya Ochigava, was doing a bit of old-school pre-fight trash talking last night.

"When you fight Katie you are already minus 10 points. You are fighting the judges and the whole system and they will try to give her too many points," is what the Russian said, among a few other things, last night.

Perhaps she was hinting that Taylor, as the biggest star in the world of women’s boxing, gets the benefit of the doubt from the lads who do the scoring. Whatever she was trying to get at, it sounds like Ochigava was hoping to get the judges to think before today’s fight. Maybe she is friends with Alex Ferguson as it sounded like a bit of classic mind games to us, and no more.

Anyway, if we were Ochigava we would be trying everything we could too. Taylor has beaten the Russian in their last two bouts and the video above is their most recent fight, at the world final in China in May.

It’s not much of a spoiler alert to tell you the result but the manner of the win will give you some idea what to expect today.

It won’t be pretty but hopefully, the result will be the same. The action starts around the 3:00 mark.

It was Los Angeles 1984-when I had a passing interest in the bread n circuses that is the Olympics; but curiously the conditioned response of National pride will be off the charts again -sometime around 5 pm...or earlier -with a K.O!

Sofya O looks dangerous and that's not only referring to her pugislistic skills. She has a stare like the business end of an AK.

They know each other well as boxers, seemingly. The more two parties meet-the more events tend to even out is thankfully a flawed gambler's strategem.

Still, I'm more nervous now-after watching the clip. With just another few rounds, of focus, control, and command-this Irish girl can triumph.....again.

    Come on Katie!

Clint will have to make a documentary---or a sequel!
