Ireland's Great Drives: The Blessington Lakes
Last week we took you for a beautiful scenic drive through Sally Gap in Co. Wicklow. This week we're only a stone's throw away in Blessington.
If you’re looking to take a short spin in one of their county’s most beautiful areas, then you’ll have to make your way towards the Blessington Lakes in Blessington, Co. Wicklow.
On a calm, sunny summers day the lake looks like a giant still mirror, only disturbed by the occasional rower - who will be rowing his nads off while you take a lovely leisurely drive.
It’s handy enough to get to the lakes from the M50. Firstly, make your way towards the Tallaght exit (exit 11) on the M50 and continue on up the Blessington road. Once you reach City West it’s only a short 15-minute drive to Blessington village, which is where the fun really begins.
Once you get to the village you’ll see a Super Value on the main street and you want to take the first left after this. You’ll continue on a windy road for less than five minutes where you will eventually come across a bridge that takes you across the lake. Go over this and take the first right.
The lake should be on your right hand side now. The great thing about this drive is that you only have to keep the lake to your right to know where you’re going.
Halfway through your journey you’ll come across the R758. Turn right onto this and it’s a straight run back to the N81 and Blessington village.
Now, all that’s left to do is to fill the tank.
