Sunday afternoon was an expensive time for these gentlemen as around €150,000 worth of damage was caused in mere seconds.
At around 4pm yesterday afternoon the Nordschleife section of the Nürburgring was a scene of carnage as eight cars were involved in a very expensive crash including the ‘famous’ BMW M3 Ring Taxi. The carnage was the result of two separate crashes that took place only meters away from each other.
According to GTSprint.com “The accident was probably caused by speeding.” Well, it was hardly caused by a duck crossing?
The first crash was caused when an English driver, ahem, didn’t realise that a section of the track was under construction and broke too late, crashing into the car in front. The Englishman’s car then slid across a grass patch and re-emerged just in time to whack into another two, completely innocent, cars.
Three drivers noticed the crash take place so they slowed their cars to a crawl, however, the BMW M3 Ring Taxi didn’t notice the decelerating cars and continued on at a normal pace. The ‘Ring Taxi’ crashed into the back of one of the civilian cars and eventually came to rest against the crash barrier as seen above.
All the cars involved, which included a Ferrari California, Porsche 911 Carrera and two BMW M3’s, were written off except for one. The estimated cost of the crash is around €150,000.
According to reports from GTSprint.com the safety regulations were not being followed at the time of the crash and at the TV wall, where normally the safety video is shown, there was nothing but rolling commercials.
We just hope the Englishman took out track insurance, because if he didn't, the closest he'd get to a supercar in the future would be JOE's Supercar poll.
