The HFHV – Hybrid function Hoon Vehicle, the new system designed by Ken Block - may sound environmental. But it’s not.
By Oisin Collins
If you’re a Block fan then you can take a deep breath and be relieved that your hero hasn’t stepped into the green side of the force and gone all environmental on us.
No, the HFHV may have the word ‘hybrid’ in it but rest assured there is no battery in sight. Well, except the obvious one that all cars have.
The HFHV is more Lego than enviro. As Block drives in a variety of different motorsport disciplines he needs a car that will adjust to the track as well as he does, a car that would have interchangeable characteristics that would help to give him the edge over the competition.
And that’s exactly what he's got. His car features a 2.0L turbocharged four-pot Ford Fiesta RS WRC built to be as manoeuvrable as Sting's wife.
The engine produces a whopping 600 bhp and 665ft of torque. The ‘Lego’ bits include the suspension, wheels and ECU as they can be adjusted to ride on whatever terrain Block is rolling on.
"The HFHV is awesome," said Block. "It’s like a group B rally car and the perfect Gymkhana and Rallycross car all in one."
