Video: Meath man wins big race in Indianapolis after one of motor racing’s most ridiculous finishes

No matter how much motor racing you watch this year, you will not see a more exciting finish than what happened at the Indy Lights Freedom 100 today.  Better yet, it was a Meath man that won it.

Not since the pulsating battle between Cole Trickle and Russ Wheeler in Days of Thunder has there been a more exciting finish to a race on US soil than what transpired in Indianpolis today, where Peter Dempsey, from Ashbourne in Meath, triumphed by thousandths of a second after a breathtaking four way battle to the finish line.

Dempsey was taking part in the Indy Lights Freedom 100, a support race to the famous Indy 500, and having been trailing the three cars in front of him right until the final turn, he suddenly slipped in alongside them to take victory in what must be the closest finish in the history of motor racing.

Dempsey and the other three cars battling it out for victory were separated by just 0.0443 seconds and in the end, Dempsey finished just .00026 of a second ahead of his closest challenger. Amazing stuff and some achievement for the man from the Royal County.

Trust a Meath man to come out on the right side of a tough battle, wha?
