One low-clearance bridge in the US has to be the most crashed into bridge in the world. Here’s a compilation of some of the best.
One bridge in Durham, North Carolina has to be the most crashed into piece of road infrastructure in the world. With a clearance of just 11”8’ there are plenty of warning signs but may drivers either ignore it or take a chance. There is only one winner.
The people who own the railroad have even put in a massive steel beam in front of the bridge, a sort of crash breaker, to limit the damage to the railway but even that beam as already had to be replaced once.
This video compiles most of the crashes captured on CCTV over the years. You can see why they call it the toughest bridge in the world.
