Remember the IndyCar driver who flipped the double barrel salute to the race officials? Well, he’s finally got his comeuppance.
Will Power flipped the double bird at the IndyCar President of Competition and Operations, Brian Barnhart and it instantly became an Internet success, gathering thousands of hits on JOE alone.
Although the majority of the other teams shared his feelings at the time about re-starting a rained out race, everyone knew he was not going to get away scot-free. Yesterday the IZOD IndyCar Series announced Power would receive a $30,000 fine or else a community service order.
Worse for Will, he’s now on probation for the remainder of the season so he’ll have to keep his hands extra squeaky-clean. He will also have five months at the end of the season to work off his community service on behalf of the IndyCar franchise.
By doing this IndyCar has made sure to look like the good guys, as they’re ‘giving Will a chance’ by making him a ‘spokesperson’. Five months of Will being IndyCar’s bee-otch more like.
Here is what he had to say for his finger flippin self: “I accept the penalty administered by IndyCar and I understand that the series has to make a reasonable effort to ensure that this type of behaviour will not be repeated by anyone else in the future.
“I have expressed my feelings about the incident that prompted my poor behaviour and I’ve apologized and continue to regret the inappropriate gesture I made as well.
“Now, I am just looking forward to getting back on track this weekend and trying to earn the best possible results moving forward for Team Penske.”
