They don’t mess about in Cleveland so a driver who went up on the footpath to overtake a school bus has been hit with an unusual punishment.
This is certainly a bit different than the penalty points system we have in dear old Ireland. According to Yahoo, a woman in Cleveland, Shena Hardin encountered a school bus every morning on her way to work. Rather than wait until the bus pulled away, Hardin would head for the footpath and shoot past the parked bus.
The driver of the bus got fed up of this behavior and decided to record the next incident. Soon he had video footage of the offence and he passed it on to the authorities.
Hardin was arrested, charged and her driver's license was suspended for 30 days and she was fined $250.
But the judge also decreed that Hardin should wear a sign that reads ‘Only an idiot would drive on the sidewalk to avoid the school bus’ for an hour on two days next week near the junction where the incident took place.
We’re not sure humiliation punishments will ever catch on here but if they do, you heard it here first.
