Video: How to change your engine's oil and filter
Last week the guys at MicksGarage.com walked you through checking your engine's oil. This week they're showing you how to change the oil and filter.
There’s nothing that makes a bloke feel more manly than tinkering around underneath the bonnet of his trusty car. So why go to the bother of bringing your car in for something as simple as an oil change when you can do it yourself with some patience and a bit of elbow grease?
In the video above Rob from MicksGarage.com demonstrates how to do a full oil and filter service on your car. For the purpose of this demo they’ve used a 2005 to 2009 model VW Passat with a 1.9tdi engine. But it’s pretty much the same procedure for every car that’s out there.
So what do you need to do a full oil and filter service on your motor? Obviously, you’ll need new oil and a new filter, but you’ll also need rubber gloves, a torque wrench, an extension bar and ratchet, hex bits, an oil drain pan and a few old rags.
