JOE meets Todd Phillips to talk about War Dogs and the potential Old School sequel

Paul Moore

How do you top a $1.4bn franchise?

It’s almost impossible not to feel giddy when you’re around War Dogs director Todd Phillips because his excitement is tangible.

The director of Road Trip, Due Date and The Hangover trilogy is in fantastic form as he happily chats about his new film War Dogs. The story of two young men, David Packouz (Miles Teller) and Efraim Diveroli (Jonah Hill) , who won a $300 million contract from the Pentagon to arm America’s allies in Afghanistan, is completely different from anything that he’s directed before but film fans are in for a treat.

Despite the dramatic elements, it’s not all serious though as there are still plenty of laughs to be had because in typical Todd Phillips fashion, the two lead characters find themselves hopelessly out of their depth and absolute carnage ensues.

Paul Moore caught up with the Oscar nominated writer/director to talk about his decision to make a film that’s very different from his previous work, collaborating with the talented duo of Jonah Hill/Miles Teller and how War Dogs taps into the public’s demand to rage against the machine.

Oh yeah, he also happened to mention the possibility of getting Mitch, Beanie and Frank the Tank back together again in Old School 2.

All together now, WE’RE GOING STREAKING!

War Dogs is released in Irish cinemas on 26 August. Here’s the trailer to get you in the mood, enjoy!
