Extreme ways are coming back
A perfect cinematic trilogy is the rarest thing to find because for every Star Wars Episodes IV-VI or Indiana Jones (The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull never happened ok?) lies a Godfather: Part 3, Spiderman 3 or X-Men: The Last Stand that's just waiting to ruin a golden cinematic streak.
The Matt Damon starring Bourne trilogy still holds up brilliantly though, Doug Liman's first entry 'The Bourne Identity' was that rarest of things - a film that gathered pace and found its audience via the rental/DVD market - while Paul Greengrass' gritty, real and documentary aesthetic only made the trials of Jason Bourne seem more visceral and dangerous.
What about that car chase in The Bourne Supremacy? Holy hell!
The franchise misfired with The Bourne Legacy, the fourth entry in the franchise that starred Jeremy Renner and was helmed by talented writer/director Tony Gilroy, but Matt Damon looks set to reprise his most famous role and he has dropped some very interesting tidbits to
Buzzfeed.
The film is making a very logical narrative choice by taking place in post Snowden world and that "without giving too much of it away, it’s Bourne through an austerity-riddled Europe and in a post-Snowden world. It seems like enough has changed, you know? There are all these kinds of arguments about spying and civil liberties and the nature of democracy.”
An austerity riddled Europe eh? Does this mean that Jason Bourne might be making his way over to Ireland? That would be something.
Paul Greengrass is expected to direct the film with a new cast that will reportedly include Tommy Lee Jones and Alicia Vikander. Julia Stiles is also expected to reprise her role as Nicky Parson.
We can't wait to hear this again.
