Michael Fassbender talks about his Killarney production of Reservoir Dogs… when he was 18

The future superstar put on an epic production at Revelles nightclub Killarney when he was just 18 years old

It’s fair to say that Michael Fassbender is one of the most sought after actors on the planet right now, and also one of the most talented. But it’s also a little known fact that he started off acting by staging his own version of the Quentin Tarantino flick in his hometown of Killarney when he was just 18.

Fassbender is currently promoting his critically lauded flick, 12 Years a Slave, and the folks at GQ Magazine caught up with him in London for a chat about where it all began.

Fassbender told the UK version of the mag that he and his best pal from Fossa National School, Owen O’Shea took the main roles – Fassbender took Mr. Pink (“he has the best lines”) while O’Shea played Mr. Orange; with the future superstar but then 18 year old also taking on directing duties.

The production was staged for two “sold out nights” at local hotspot Revelles nightclub after the powers that be at the town hall objected to the violence (a pork chop masquerading as an ear) and refused to allow him to stage it there. This despite Fassbender insisting all profits were going to charity.

The German born, Kerry raised actor worked with Tarantino years later on the hugely successful World War 2 epic, Inglourious Basterds, and told his director of his first foray into fame. His response, only half joking “Once nobody is making any money off of my shit.” Brilliant.

12 Years a Slave is released later this month, while Fassbender can also be seen in the blockbuster sequel, X-Men: Days of Future, next summer.
