It’s going to be a good year.
2015 was most definitely a year when Netflix cemented its position as the home for some of the most innovative and original TV shows around – Master of None, Narcos, Daredevil and Making a Murderer were just a few of the highlights – but 2016 looks like it’s going to be an even bigger year for the online streaming giant.
70 original titles will be premiering during the year including 31 TV series, 10 films and 30 Netflix originals for kids. While JOE will always keep you up to date with the new additions on a monthly basis, here’s just a brief taste of what’s in store this year.
Netflix original shows returning in 2016
Narcos (Season 2)
Arguably the best show of 2015 is back and it’s not to be missed. For newbies to the world of Pablo Escobar, the true story details the rise of Colombia’s violent and powerful drug cartels in this gritty and addictive Emmy nominated gangster drama series.
Better Call Saul (Season 2) – New episodes weekly from 16 February
The Emmy nominated prequel to Breaking Bad follows small time attorney Jimmy McGill as he transforms into morally challenged lawyer Saul Goodman. Season one really delivered on the hype and we can’t wait to see where the show will be going next.
House of Cards (Season 4) – Premieres 4 March
The very definition of binge TV because it’s so incredibly addictive. Frank Underwood has announced his candidacy for president and will stop at nothing to conquer Washington DC in this Emmy and Golden Globe winning political drama.
Marvel’s Daredevil (Season 2)
Blinded as a young boy, Matt Murdock fights injustice by day as a lawyer and by night as the super hero Daredevil. The Punisher and Elektra are in this new season as Hell’s Kitchen is starting to heat up.
Orange is the New black (Season 4)
A privileged New Yorker ends up on a woman’s prison when a past crime catches up with her in this Emmy winning series from the creator of Weeds.
Marco Polo (Season 2)
Set in a world of greed, betrayal, sexual intrigue and rivalry. Marco Polo is based on the famed explorer’s adventures in Kublai Khan’s court.
Bloodline (Season 2)
When the black sheep son of a respected family threatens to expose dark secrets from their past, sibling loyalties are put to the test.
Sense8 (Season 2)
From the creators of The Matrix and Babylon 5 comes the tense series in which eight people can telepathically experience each other’s lives.
Bojack Horseman (Season 3)
Meet the most beloved sitcom horse of the 90s. 20 years later he’s a curmudgeon with a heart of… not quite gold but something like gold…Copper?
Brand New Netflix Originals in 2016
LOVE
Love follows nice guy Gus (Paul Rust) and brazen wild-child Mickey (Gillian Jacobs) as they navigate the highs and lows of intimacy, commitment, love and other things they were hoping to avoid. Love is an unflinching, hilarious and excruciatingly honest take on modern relationships that’s created, written and executive produced by Judd Apatow.
Chelsea Does (23 January)
Chelsea Does is is a four part docu-series featuring Chelsea Handler exploring four topics of personal and universal fascination: marriage, racism, Silicon Valley, and drugs.
The format is comprised of four revealing, funny and introspective films (Chelsea Does Marriage, Chelsea Does Racism, Chelsea Does Silicon Valley, Chelsea Does Drugs) featuring Handler exploring topics of personal and universal fascination, from marriage to drugs, to racism and Silicon Valley.

Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon : Sword of Destiny (26 February)

Directed by the renowned martial arts choreographer (The Matrix Trilogy and Kill Bill 1& 2) and director (Tai Chi Master) Yuen Wo-Ping, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny stars Michelle Yeoh (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, The Lady) as Yu Shu-Lien and Donnie Yen (Ip Man 1&2, Monkey King 3D) as Silent Wolf.
Jadotville
A gripping true story of incredible bravery against impossible odds, the film thrillingly depicts the 1961 siege of a 150-strong Irish UN battalion under Commander Patrick Quinlan (Dornan) by 3000 Congolese troops led by French and Belgian mercenaries working for mining companies. Canet plays a French commander who sought to defeat Quinlan and his men.
War Machine
Inspired by the best-selling book The Operators: The Wild and Terrifying Inside Story of America’s War in Afghanistan by the late Michael Hastings, War Machine concerns a four star, “rock star” general whose lethal reputation and impeccable track record vaults him to command the American war in Afghanistan.
