7 bold predictions for Game of Thrones Season 7

Paul Moore

A good read for The Long Night.

Masie Williams has been happily teasing us with details about Season 7 of Game of Thrones and with this in mind, we’ve decided to channel our inner Three-Eyed Raven and predict what the future has in in store.

1) Waves of blood in the Summer Sea

Daenerys has finally set sail for Westeros and as the new alliances created in the Season 7 finale showed us, it’s very likely that she’s going to use Dorne as her HQ before launching an assault on King’s Landing.

We also know that Euron Greyjoy is reconstructing a formidable Iron Fleet as he 1) pursues Theon/Yara, 2) aims to make Dany his wife.

To put it bluntly, the sea that’s off the coast of Dorne isn’t big enough for the both of them.

They’re gonna need bigger boats… and dragons.

2) Jon the diplomat

After an action-packed season which saw Jon return from the dead, exact revenge on the mutinous members of the Night’s Watch, abandon his position as Lord Commander, reclaim Winterfell after the jaw-dropping Battle of the Bastards and accept the position of King in The North, we think that Longclaw will be less blood-soaked in Season 7.

Why’s this? Well, in Jon’s own words, he knows that “the true enemy won’t wait out the storm, he brings the storm”. The king in The North is one of the few people that know the true power of the Night King, surely he has to try and unite the North, and then the rest of the Seven Kingdoms, against this impending threat.

Kit Harrington even said: “I think it’s (Season 7) going to get very bleak before if there is a happy ending. If there’s any sort of win or heroic moment for Jon and everyone else I think it’s going to get very dark before it gets better.

“I think what we might see this season is those White Walkers and that Army of the Dead really come into force. So that’s going to be exciting to see. I don’t know what it means. I think with the whole “winter is finally here” business, it means everyone is going to have a really bad time.”

It’s not impossible that Jon/Jaehaerys Targaryen will also learn about his true parentage. If so, would he be content to be King/ (eventual) Warden in The North or would he have designs on the Iron Throne?

With his mind and focus away from proceedings at Winterfell, this leaves ample opportunity for…

3) Sansa to climb the ladder of chaos

Game of Thrones has never entertained the idea of happy families and as we’ve seen in various examples before, Sophie Turner hasn’t shied away from the fact that there’s tension between Sansa and Jon.

An alliance between the Lady of Winterfell and Littlefinger has even been encouraged by the show itself. Is Sansa actually deceiving the most machiavellian schemer in Game of Thrones or in Jon’s likely absence, will she succumb to Littlefinger’s plans?

4) Tyrion to the fore

We thoroughly enjoyed Season 6 but our biggest complaint was the fact that Tyrion – arguably the best character on the show – was forced to sit on the sidelines for most of it. Seriously, what was with those ‘drinking game’ scenes with Grey Worm and Missandei?

Daenerys will be setting foot in a land that’s alien to her and it’s very likely that she’ll desperately need Tyrions’s wisdom and council.

Expect to see the youngest Lannister back to his best.

5) Arya’s kill list

A girl has a name and she’s heading back to Winterfell. Going in the opposite direction, though, is Melisandre because The Red Priestess was sent away by Jon for her involvement in the murder of Princess Shireen.

Arya and Melisandre already have a previous history; you may remember her prophecy about Arya when she said, “I see a darkness in you. And in that darkness, eyes staring back at me. Brown eyes, blue eyes, green eyes … eyes you’ll shut forever. We will meet again”.

With The Long Night approaching, Melisandre is looking for somewhere to belong and it’s not impossible that she’ll rejoin the Brotherhood Without Banners. Two more names on Arya’s list are Beric Dondarrion and Thoros of Myr, both members of the brotherhood.

Three birds with one stone/dagger/sword/poison?

6) Stuck between Casterly Rock and a hard place

Tyrion is on Dany’s side, Brienne is firmly behind Team Stark and with Cersei’s only redeeming quality – her children – gone, we full expect the Queen to fly off the deep end.

The Mad King kept stocks of wildfire hidden throughout King’s Landing and Cersei has already proven that she’s more than happy to use them. Jamie is going to have to kill someone he loves. Will he come to be known as the Queen Slayer?

Maybe Dany’s vision of a destroyed, decrepit and burned Red Keep is a sign of what’s going to come also?

7) The Wall will fall

“Don’t knock it down while I’m gone.”

These were the last words that Jon Snow said to Dolorous Edd. Make no mistake about it, winter is here and the Night King won’t be waiting around.

Bran’s mark could have taken away from The Wall’s defensive spells and while we doubt if the show has the budget for two major set-pieces (the first being Dany’s inevitable assault on King’s Landing), we just can’t wait to see The Wall fall.

It’s going to happen but when?

All this without mentioning the possibility of The Hound vs The Mountain, Bran’s visions,  Gendry’s location, the potential addition of Aegon Targaryen, this interesting theory about Sam and even more.

If you’ve got any ideas/theories of your own then feel free to share.
